As the capital city of Arizona, Phoenix is a central hub for the state. This is why we have one of our car shipping affiliates located here. So if you’re curious “how much does it cost to transport a car?” Then we’ve got you covered!
Being located in the desert, Phoenix has intense summers and very mild winters earning it the name The Valley of the Sun. This makes it the perfect place for those who don’t like the harsh conditions winter can bring. It’s also great if you love or need a lot of sunshine – 300 of the 365 days are the average for days with the sun. Phoenix also doesn’t participate in daylight savings time, the same as most of Arizona. Even though it is surrounded by mountains, the city itself is mostly flat. Because of this, the grid consists of many wide roadways.
Phoenix is home to one of the top 10 busiest airports in the US, the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. It’s located in the center of the city, near several of the major freeways. There are also five smaller airports throughout the area as well. Phoenix is ranked first in the nation for the quality of both their bridges and urban freeways. There isn’t as much congestion on the roadway as in other major metros, which makes maintenance a little easier. There are 2 interstates, one US highway, and six state routes that go through Phoenix.
To the northeast of the city is Tonto National Forest, and within the city are 182 parks including South Mountain Park, Sunnyslope Mountain, and Camelback Mountain. South Mountain is the world’s largest municipal park at 16,500 acres. All the parks were created for both preservation and recreation. You’ll find hiking trails, camping, swimming, horseback riding, and more. Phoenix also has the Desert Botanical Garden which houses many desert plants and plants from other country’s deserts. You can also see many endangered species at The Phoenix Zoo in their internationally known preservation program. It is the largest privately owned non-profit zoos in the US. Phoenix has nine different museums including a children’s museum and art museum.
The Luke Air Force Base creates a significant military presence in Phoenix. It’s located in the western suburbs. There are also many colleges and universities in Phoenix including Arizona State University, University of Arizona College of Medicine, Northern Arizona University, Maricopa County Community College, and Phoenix College.
