A Piece of Auto History Gets Shipped Back Home
At Executive Auto Shippers we ship vehicles all over the United States, including Hawaii and Alaska. But it’s rare that we actually get to meet our customers face to face, or see the vehicle ourselves. So when we found out we were delivering a 1950 Studebaker 2r Truck just up the road, the owners of EAS decided to go check it out. The Kellogg Historical Museum gave them a wonderful tour, as well as backstory on the truck that was delivered there.
Some Help From Our Classic Car Shippers
Located in the town of Kellogg Iowa (about 45 miles east of the capital, Des Moines, and 25 miles from our office in Monroe), the museum consists of eight buildings. Each helps set the stage for when the town was the “end of the line” for the railroad in the early 1900s. The Studebaker was owned by Ralph Breen, who donated the vehicle after his passing at the age of 92. Thanks to a referral from his friend, Tay, we were able to arrange for an enclosed auto transport from California back to its new home in Iowa.
“Ralph and my dad were good friends,” said David Fairclothe, president of the Kellogg Historical Society. He told us that Ralph’s dad had originally bought the truck while he was living in Kellogg. “James and Mary Breen lived south of the railroad tracks, what was considered rural Kellogg at the time,” added Fairclothe. James was a worker on the railroad. Fairclothe also stated that although Ralph moved to California, he still has relatives in the area.
The truck is now located in the barn of the museum next to their 1944 LA John Deere Tractor. It’ll be there until they have finished work on the carriage house. “[The truck] has been our highlight during the 2016 season,” said Fairclothe, “we’re excited to have this addition with such a great historical connection to the area.” Along with the truck will have a display of the Breen Family Genealogy. The Kellogg Historical Museum is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day each year.
After such a great story, we were even more excited to have helped transport the 1950 Studebaker 2r Truck from California to the Kellogg Historical Museum safely per Ralph’s request. We truly enjoyed hearing the story behind the truck, and all the stories we get with the vehicles we ship. Next time you ship your car with us, we’d love to hear yours!
