So many things can be tied to memories, from smells to sites. Some of the fondest memories come in the form of a vehicle: their first car, the restoration project they fixed with their dad, or maybe the first car they bought on their own. That’s what inspired us to create our annual charity event car show, Drive Down Memory Lane supporting the Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Iowa. We invite all types of vehicles to come out for the day and show off their favorite set of wheels. With the help of many local Iowa businesses and even some national partners, we’ve continued to grow this great charity event each year. In 2016 and 2017 we held the event at Principal Park in the heart of Des Moines, Iowa.
We give out 3 awards during the car show, as well as other prizes throughout the day. Our awards are Most Nostalgic for the oldest in attendance, Farthest Distance Driven for the one who drives the most miles, and our crowd-voted Most Memorable.
Being our first event, we were very pleasantly surprised by the attendance and overall support received. There were 35 cars who joined us on Sunday, September 18th. Along with our sponsors MyKlassic.com and Caveman Toys, and vendors of all kinds. We were able to raise $3525 for the Alzheimer’s Association, as well as awareness through an impromptu interview on WOI TV channel 5, and a very nice write up in the Des Moines Register Sunday paper.
Our second year didn’t let us down. With the help of many more sponsors (MyClassicNews, Advance Auto Parts, Blue Compass, MVP Services, Heartland HVAC, Midwest Basement Systems, Thrivent Financial-Nathan Beattie, Quick Performance, Stivers Ford Lincoln Waukee, and Westside Auto Pros), along with 61 participants, vendors, and many others in attendance, we raised $6233 for the Alzheimer’s Association.
