Executive Auto Shippers may be a nationwide auto transport company, but we have a passion for our local charities and communities. This starts with the owners, Matt and Jenny Van Gelder. They are members of the local Kiwanis and enjoy assisting with their many events in the community. They encourage their team to not only participate in EAS events but share their passions with the company as well.
When Mike Hoogeveen visited the EAS office in 2016, he shared the story of his daughter, Megan, and her fight with Hemophagocytic LymphoHistiocytosis, also known as HLH. This rare but potentially fatal condition affects the function of white blood cells, causing them to build up in different areas of the body and destroy other blood cells. When his daughter passed in 2011 from HLH, he wanted to honor her memory and help to find a cure for HLH. Through his charity, Megan’s Legacy, he has raised not only funds but blood donations as well. His story encouraged us to start hosting regular community blood drives at our office to support both Megan’s Legacy as well as Lifeserve Blood Center.
When one of our employees shared their passion for people who don’t have enough to eat or have empty cupboards, we were happy to support her efforts. Now an annual event, we host our Feel the Warmth Food Drive between Thanksgiving and Christmas. We encourage both our employees and the community to donate non-perishable food items and personal items. Each week, we collect the donations and take them to the PCM Food Pantry to help support those in the community and surrounding areas.
Our most unique event we hold annually is a charity auto show. The Drive Down Memory Lane Auto Show is held every September in downtown Des Moines. All proceeds raised are donated to the Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Iowa. We invite all types of vehicles to join us for the day and ask local businesses to help sponsor the event as well. Awards are presented for the Most Nostalgic (oldest), Farthest Distance Driven, and the publicly voted Most Memorable Car. Each year we’ve grown both the event and the donation given.
